😄

So how is your journey going? Have you had good experience since going full time? Any words of wisdom for the rest of us based on your experience?

Hi James, I have been trading for a living for 47 years now, my grandfather and father were both traders, my grandfather was a cotton trader in London in the 1880's

Damn, you must have a long track record!

Are you trading your own money or working for a firm?

I trade full time, but don't do it for a living yet as I make no drawings from the profits. The intention is to turn 'pro' as I finish University next year as a mature student.

James, I have always been an independant trader, I only ever trade my own money. Im past retirement age now but I still like to trade. Ive earned a good living out of it albeit having my ups and downs but the way I have structured my finances I could have 12 consecutive months of losses and still be in a good financial shape. When I had very good months the extra was put away for a rainy day(make that bad months)

gosh it should be kinda hard to do the full time job without any income from it. actually if I were you I would rather to choose part time trading plus learning. because if you don't have any profit, there can be any mistakes in your strategy...
If you want to end up with a nonaverage net worth, a “learn from someone else” attitude is paramount. Putting your ego aside and admitting that you don’t know it all isn’t easy, but it is the mindset of true winner ----Paul Tudor Jones.

Patients is the key to trading. And getting the concept of winners and losers. I found these 2 articles helpful because these used to be a problem for me. I have trained myself to be patient and wait for what I am looking for. All these tools from all these posts will help you trade full time.

I have five years experience for trading.

Currently, I trade for living for nearly two years.
I programe EA then trade for myselft and mainly others.
My target 1% daily or 15% per month -- >EA will automatic turn off.

I've got part-time job also just for free of my time.

Good luck !

This is one of the best threads I have ever read so thanks for getting it started James Bond.

I have been trading for 3 years, done a couple of pro training courses, lost money (of course) but I want to go full time next year. It's a daunting feeling but I'm sure the feedom will be worth it. Patience is the hardest part of trading - I would rather wait for low risk trades, only take 10 trades per month (400 pips total) @$10/pip - this is pretty much what I need to live on.

Good luck to everyone.

I agree with you (sd59), it is a really good thread, big thanks for James_Bond and you all! I got here a lot of inspiration that 'don't give up!'. I 've been learning Forex trading for 1,5 year and had a lot losses on live accounts (I had no patience to learn on demo, I wanted to get the big money instant.. :/ ). Now I try to change my mind and became a PATIENT, rarely trading, successful, financial free 'forexman'. Big win pips for everyone! :)
Don't PANIC!

Guys, a quick thank you to all those that contributed to this post and to James Bond for starting and keeping it going. I do not normally contribute to fora such as this (nor do I read them) as many of them attract crazy and unnecssary as well as invaluable remarks. But this one has been really interesting and most valuable.

I also started trading part time about 2 years ago and am still trying to get the hand of making a profit! However, your remarks have been encouraging and good luck to all of you!!!

From the first day I got to know what is ForeX I planned to live from it.
What I like in it is:
- 'Flexible' work hours - I work when I want...
- I'm not 'tied' to one place- I can do it at home , cafe or during holidays in Spain ;)
- No boss over me
- As I only scalp- it takes few hours to make those 10-15 pips daily and the rest of the day I can spend doing what I like ;)

It took me one year to find suitable to my nature ( and profitable) trading system. In my opinion main problem traders have is lack of patience... If you hope to earn more then 2-3% daily you can forget about earning at all...

very turn when you master of art of trading, you are pretty much a free bird =) I am glad you made out.

I've calculated my minimum capital requirements for me that i would be able to get a decent living from trading.
unfortunatly i've just graduated, am looking for a job and am short on cash.
But here's the math:
In my country I would be able to live from 3000 USD/month, which is more than I would earn working.
So for 20 trading days present in a month I would need to gain 150 USD/day
I currently have 3 mini real accounts with my current broker I can use to get to this 150 USD/day so this will result in 50 USD/account
Now: my current stratigy allows me to gain a 5 USD -10 USD/day for each ea active on a chart
to run the EA safely multiple times(5times) I would need 4000 USD/account
So the minimal capital:
12 000 USD in the case an average of (10 USD/day)/EA run is gotten
24 000 USD in the case an average of (5 USD/day)/EA run is gotten
now to apply this in real life:
Lets say I save 1000 USD/month when I have a job, living with mom and dad, my future would be I needed to work less then 2 years to be indipendant, knowing I'm running 3 accounts each with 1 time the EA the odds will be I reach this target within 1 year.

So I envy those people who already have 30 000 USD starting cash and in my opinion should be set for life :)
but then again if everyone could reach these targets the economy would collapse :D

To top this all off and make nonsense of what I wrote above, I'm only trading this stratigy live for 3 weeks with the small cash I have, so this isnt bulletproof nor has the stratigy been proven to never crash. Even though I hadn't had a day to have losses with this stratigy, I can not garantee succes :) no one can, we can just make an educated guess.
So fingers crossed :D

I am sorry brother, the EA would hardly work. I have been in the market for over 5 years, and yet, i spotted and a good stable EA that would general consistance incoming. I guess my point is if you somehow find EA that would work for your above calculation, not just you, many many other traders would become rich fast.

Work through your emotional hardship during trading and learn from your mistakes would be a good way out. I have checked your systems, and you need more than 3 years to master trading if you are going without a mentor.

These are my honest opions for you. Good luck.
