There is a lot of advice for new traders on this board, some of it from those that are making a living helping others here, some from other newbies and some from people like me who has other ways to make money and isn't looking to make money from the newbies on this forum. So how can you tell who to trust?
One good indicator of who knows something is how long they have been a member of the forum. People that have been here awhile have heard most of the crap that gets spread around and knows where to not step. They know what doesn't work and can shorten your search for what ever it is that suits you. But the advice from other newbies should be questioned. How would they know more than you do?
Now everybody on this forum has an over inflated ego. They have to because they are trying to do what everyone tells them can't be done. Without a strong ego, you won't be arrogant enough to believe that you can succeed where others have failed. Unfortunately that ego comes across as a lot of bolstering and bragging. But the fact is none of us are really any different from you, and what one can do, others can and will do as well. You can too with a little time under your belt.
Another thing is to use your logic. Can you trust people that show demos instead of live accounts? Here, just a little bit of rational thinking will answer that one for you. If the demos were different than a live account, then every broker that offered a demo account would be liable when a live account failed and would be sued. You can not show one thing then switch to something else when it comes to actually doing business. That is called a bait and switch and will have someone in jail.
Every broker will confirm that their demos are the same as you will find when using a live account. All you have to do is ask them. I have no idea where this nonsense about demos being different than live accounts came from, it wasn't even a topic when I started, maybe some of the other old timers know where it got started but if there was anything to it, we would all know by now, not just a handful of newbies.
Talk about strategies all day long but keep your personal information personal or there will be someone that will use it to your disadvantage. That's my best advice, I hope it helps.
