GJ has good volatility but I find it too unpredictable and even with the volatility the spread is generally larger than on other pairs which eats a lot of profit

Just trade in pair that really you understand with the character pair movement, although many traders suggest for EURUSD but if trader cant understands character pair, hence will often be swayed by fluctuation movement prices in the market and maybe often facing floating and dragged account decreasing equity. There are so many pairs in forex, usually, the USD pair has a low spread instead of cross pair and exotic pairs. in my FXOpen trading account, I like to trade on XAUUSD, included low spread and challenging trading pair.

Not sure if I agree GBPUSD is the most volatile... GJ, EA, EN, GC, GN higher to name a few.
Great pair to trade though being a major.

@cranberrythekid No doubt GBP/JPY is called The Widowmaker but a good forex hedging strategy might be helpful. It may help to mitigate your losses to a certain extent.

we the traders should choose the pair which is more appropriate to the concept of trading that will be used , if you love doing scalping should choose the pair which has most lowest trading spreads.
