Actually yeah. Don't know what's the big deal in answering that.

Forex will not give me mental pressure if I can manage the risk. Money Management and Risk Management will help me trade freely.

The problem with being honest and saying you are a Forex trader is that many people see Forex trading as very similar to gambling and that is not a good impression. Better to go with something like 'free lance financial analyst for the investment market' etc

@CakeMoss couldn't agree more . Many people aren't aware about the true nature of Forex and how profitable it is if done properly. But I also feel people shouldn't hide what they do. I prefer calling myself a forex trader as it took me years of study and practice to become a moderately successful one :)

I love this thread. I struggled with this question for years. I got sick of telling people, because it was always the same thing. What do you do? Me: Forex Them: Whats that? Me: ''EXPLAINS'' Them: OHHHHH Can you teach me etc etc etc..... Finally, I just started being kind of awkward about it and started answering things like. I make it rain, or I have a sugar daddy or I'm in the mafia. The funny thing about it is people really started believing it to the point my local favorite bartender told me people ask him what I do. Apparently the rumor now is I am a high end escort thats related to a drug lord in the mafia. I love it... My advice is have fun with it. Forex is a lonely isolating life. At least enjoy messing with people while you rake in the $$$$$$$$$$ 😁

I am stopping here..... this is the best answer I have found so far ;-)

Since I am a male and don't have the privilege of being an escort :-(, I tell people that I am working as a 'Portfolio Manager', where I manage and grow the value of my portfolio that includes Metal, Indices, and Currencies.
It's a game of probabilities!

It is completely up to you to what extent you wish to tell others what you do. You can give them the basic definition of forex trading and that’s enough I guess, because most people won’t get what you are doing if they have no idea about it.

Not everyone sees forex trading as a career. For many people, it is another way of risking your money. So it’s better to not explain much to anyone, just tell them that you work in the financial market.

Why you have to explain how to earn your money? Or you can just simply say I do online trading business. If they understand, good, if they don't understand, that's also good.

Now a days many people know that people can make money online. So it should not be a hard time to make anyone understand. If they don't understand, leave it.

Forex can be a lifetime job and one can do it at their leisure. If you have proper knowledge of it and good experience with forex trading, you can take Forex trading as your main job. You can also do forex trading as a hobby after your main job to earn extra money in your free time. At the end of the day, it all depends on you but knowledge, skills, and planning are all needed no matter where you choose to trade forex.

In each case, they have seized it, despite obstacles we can scarcely imagine. ' It can create depression from friends, family, neighbors anywhere. But as human beings I have to ignore these issues. And the choice must be supported. There is no difference in trading. I have to work with a refreshed mind. Even if it is a loss, it has to be managed positively.

If you're fond of trading activity and you're really passionate about this activity, then just tell everybody that you run trading activity. There is nothing bad in it. I got used to think that people do the maximum in order to provide themselves with everything they need. You shouldn't be hesitated telling people the truth. Trading is a very difficult sphere and if you handle the task of earning money here, then you're already a winner. It's not a shame to work, it's a shame not to work. This proverb perfectly describes the relation to those people, who think that you're slacker if you tell them that you are fond of trading activity. Moreover, they can just be envious.

For someone who has never heard of forex trading, it can be really difficult to understand what it is and what a trader does to make money. Now that you have to tell someone about what you do, I think it should be up to the extent you will be able to make them understand. You can tell them about some good websites for their reference if they show more interest.

These replies made me realise that I am not the only one avoiding this question. Only my family knows that I trade currencies and they think of me as nothing more than a bit of a reputed gambler. Thank god I’ve another job so I just don’t need to tell anyone about my trading career.

You can also say you are a full-time trader or self-employed trader. Try to explain what you do with simple terms, so people unfamiliar with forex trading terminology can understand your job.

Guess that you should answer the truth. If you earn money due to trading activity, then you have to say that you earn money due to trading. Don't pay attention to skeptical claims of those who would tell you that you do nothing and you're a lazy boy. Actually, those who ar skeptical towards trading will never be able even earning a penny, so just ignore such people.
If someone asks you to explain how to earn money due to trading, then also you would better not to describe your strategy in details, because the market doesn't like competitors.

Trading is easy to understand, most people invest in the stock market at least through their 401k, so they understand it already as a person trading another specific financial vehicle.
