The Malaysia stock market has moved higher in six straight sessions, gathering almost 40 points or 2.5 percent along the way. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index now sits just above the 1,570-point plateau and it may be stuck in neutral on Thursday.

The South Korea stock market has alternated between positive and negative finishes through the last five trading days since the end of the four-day losing streak in which it had plunged almost 125 points or 4.6 percent. The KOSPI now sits just above the 2,675-point plateau and it's likely to remain rangebound again on Thursday.

South Korea will on Thursday release preliminary Q1 figures for gross domestic product, highlighting a modest day for Asia-Pacific economic activity. GDP is expected to rise 0.6 percent on quarter and 2.4 percent on year after gaining 0.6 percent on quarter and 2.2 percent on year in the three months prior.

After five successive days of gains, the Canadian market turned in a weak performance on Wednesday with stocks from industrials and communications sectors declining sharply.

The U.S. dollar stayed fairly steady on Wednesday, scoring gains against some of its major counterparts, and drifting down a bit against some, as traders digested U.S. durable goods orders data, and awaited Q1 GDP data and a report on personal income and spending that includes readings on inflation said to be preferred by the Fed.

The EUR/USD pair rose to 1.0707 on Wednesday, driven by increased local risk appetite and the belief that the currency was significantly oversold against the US dollar. This resurgence indicates a temporary rebalancing in the currency market.
