The Singapore stock market on Wednesday ended the four-day slide in which it had declined more than 90 points or 3 percent. The Straits Times Index now rests just beneath the 3,155-point plateau although it may see renewed consolidation on Thursday.

The Malaysia stock market on Wednesday ended the four-day losing streak in which it had stumbled more than 25 points or 1.7 percent. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index now sits just above the 1,540-point plateau although it may head south again on Thursday.

The South Korea stock market has moved lower in four straight sessions, slumping almost 125 points or 4.6 percent along the way. The KOSPI now sits just beneath the 2,585-point plateau and it figures to open in the red again on Thursday.

Australia will on Thursday release March figures for unemployment, highlighting a light day for Asia-Pacific economic activity.

After trending higher over the past several days, the value of the U.S. dollar has given back ground during trading on Wednesday.
