Sensex, Nifty Extend Gains As IT Stocks Surge
(RTTNews) - Indian shares opened on a buoyant note Wednesday, with IT stocks surging amid positive global cues and on growing optimism over a potential trade deal with the United States.
The benchmark BSE Sensex was up 550 points, or 0.7 percent, at 84,420 in early trade, while the broader NSE Nifty index edged up by 154 points, or 0.6 percent, to 25,849.
Among the top gainers, HCL Technologies, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, Tech Mahindra, TCS, Adani Ports and Eternal were up 1-2 percent.
Tata Steel, Hindustan Aeronautics and IRCTC were moving higher ahead of their earnings results due today.
RVNL shares held steady despite the company reporting a 20 percent year-on-year decline in quarterly net profit.
Tata Power was slightly lower and Grodrej Industries dropped 2.2 percent on posting disappointing Q2 results.
Torrent Power shares fell 2.5 percent despite the company reporting a 50 percent jump in quarterly profit.
Bharat Forge was little changed on fund raising reports.
