The value of the U.S. dollar is currently seeing modest strength on Tuesday after fluctuating earlier in the trading day.

Citing a "lack of progress" toward reaching the central bank's inflation goal, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell suggested on Tuesday that interest rates are likely to remain higher for longer. Powell's remarks came during a moderated discussion with Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem at the Washington Forum on the Canadian Economy.

The International Monetary Fund said on Tuesday that a resilient global economy is set for steady growth in the next two years as inflation returns to target gradually, but the growth will be uneven amid persistent risks. Global growth is set to remain at 3.2 percent this year and next, the same as in 2023, the IMF said in its latest World Economic Outlook.

A report released by the Federal Reserve on Tuesday showed industrial production in the U.S. increased in line with economist estimates in the month of March. The Fed said industrial production climbed by 0.4 percent in March, matching the upwardly revised advance in February.

The Dollar Index (DXY) soared to finish above 106.0 (104.95) as geopolitical risks rose amidst hawkish Fed bets. News that Iran fired a huge salvo of missiles and drones toward Israel boosted the Greenback against its Rivals.

Stronger than expected Inflation data in the US, which accelerated to 3.5% for the second month running, lifted the Dollar Index to 105.23, a 5-month high.

Gold prices slumped anew to USD 2,155 per ounce from USD 2,163 on Friday, and USD 2,184 a week ago, boosting the US Dollar up against its Rivals. 

Heading into this morning’s RBNZ Rate Decision meeting, the Kiwi (NZD/USD) steadied to 0.6170, little changed from 0.6165 previously. The Kiwi retreated off Monday’s high at 0.6211. Last week RBNZ Governor Adrian Orr acknowledged the risks of tightening policy.
