2. How to create a new backtest

To start a new backtest:

  1. Sign in to your Myfxbook account.
  2. Open Backtest from the main navigation.
  3. Select Start Free Backtest or create a new test from your Backtest page.
  4. Choose the symbol you want to test.
  5. Select the historical date or period from which the replay should begin.
  6. Review the available backtest and account settings.
  7. Select Start Backtest.

The historical chart will load at the selected point in time. Prices occurring after the current replay time remain hidden and are gradually revealed as the replay moves forward.

The current simulated market date and time are displayed inside the Backtest workspace.

Choosing a suitable starting period

Try to choose a period that you have not recently studied. Starting from a familiar chart may introduce hindsight bias because you may already remember what happened next.

It is also useful to repeat the same strategy across:

  • Trending and ranging markets
  • High- and low-volatility periods
  • Different symbols
  • Different timeframes
  • Several separate historical periods

Myfxbook provides hundreds of symbols and more than 20 years of historical data, although the first available date may vary between symbols.
