"Such a scenario possible when different position sizes are used.
So for example:
- You lose -100 pips at $5/pip (-$500 loss).
- You lose win 50 pips at $100/pip ($5000 win)
Total pips are -100+50=-50
Total profit is = -$500 + $5000 = +$4500
As you can see from the example above, it is possible to have a negative pip gain with a positive dollar profit outcome."

Two methods are used to calculate performance: cumulative and absolute.
Time-Weighted Return (TWR) that measures the performance of a dollar invested in the system since inception.
TWR measurement is required by the Global Investment Performance Standards published by the CFA Institute. Its distinguishing characteristic is that cash inflows, cash outflows and amounts invested over different time periods have no impact on the return.
