U.S. Weekly Jobless Claims Decrease More Than Expected

(RTTNews) - A report released by the Labor Department on Thursday showed first-time claims for U.S. unemployment benefits fell by more than expected in the week ended May 18th.
The Labor Department said initial jobless claims slid to 215,000, a decrease of 8,000 from the previous week's revised level of 223,000.
Economists had expected jobless claims to edge down to 220,000 from the 222,000 originally reported for the previous week.
Meanwhile, the report said the less volatile four-week moving average crept up to 219,750, an increase of 1,750 from the previous week's revised average of 218,000.

U.S. Construction Spending Unexpectedly Increases In August
A report released by the Commerce Department on Thursday showed an unexpected increase in U.S. construction spending in the month of August. The Commerce Department said construction spending climbed by 0.9 percent to an annual rate of $2.203 trillion in August after edging down by 0.1 percent to a revised rate of $2.185 trillion in July.
