What Can a Broker Really Do for Children in a Slum? EBC Finds Out with the Foundation for Slum Child Care

EBC visited the Foundation for Slum Child Care in Klong Toey, donating essentials and funding meals to support 55 underprivileged children.

At EBC Financial Group, we talk a lot about impact — how fast execution, precise data, and liquidity access can affect traders’ outcomes. But real impact doesn’t always come in the form of numbers. Sometimes, it looks like a warm meal, a bottle of soy sauce, or even a child’s smile in one of Bangkok’s most overlooked communities.

On 28 June 2025, we brought our efforts offline and into the heart of Klong Toey, home to the Foundation for Slum Child Care (Baan Som Wai), where we donated essential supplies and meals to support over 55 children aged between 3 months and 5 years. These are the early, fragile years of life — and for families living in Thailand’s largest and most densely populated slum, every bit of help counts.

Supporting More Than Survival

Bangkok is a thriving metropolis, but within its bright skyline lies a difficult truth: an estimated 1.5 million people, nearly 30 percent of the population, live in informal settlements. Klong Toey is the largest of them all, where poverty, addiction, and instability create daily challenges for low-income families.

The Foundation for Slum Child Care operates as a daycare sanctuary, giving infants and toddlers a safe, nurturing space to grow while easing the burden on working parents. The centre doesn’t just keep children occupied — it offers physical, emotional, and developmental care that many of them would otherwise go without.

We knew that small, well-targeted contributions could go a long way here. Our team in Thailand worked closely to provide everyday essentials: eggs, fresh fruit, ATK test kits, soy sauce, seasonings, tissue paper, and alcohol sanitiser. Alongside these items, we contributed funds to provide dinner for the children — a moment of joy at the end of the day.

A Message That Meant the World to Us

The team at the Foundation received our visit with open arms. Arisa Wongcharoenyong, Head Caregiver at the Infant Care Centre, expressed heartfelt thanks not just for the items, but for the intention behind them. She also shared a significant milestone — the Foundation had just celebrated its 44th anniversary on 22 June 2025.

“In a world that feels complex and challenging, the Foundation for Slum Child Care remains a warm and safe second home for the children. On behalf of the Foundation, I sincerely thank EBC Financial Group for bringing love and easing our burdens. This support is not only about the supplies, but also a great encouragement for the children and our entire team. I wish all EBC employees good health and much happiness,” said Arisa.

Why We Do This Work

We’re a global broker, yes. But behind every strategy, every product, and every platform upgrade is a core belief — that we have a responsibility to the world around us. Our work doesn’t stop at financial services. It continues in classrooms, disaster zones, and neighbourhoods like Klong Toey, where a little help can change a child’s path.

This outreach is just one example of our broader CSR efforts, which focus on education, youth development, and community care. Our goal is to make social contribution part of how we operate, not just a seasonal initiative. It’s how we build trust, locally and globally.

Looking Ahead

There’s no perfect formula for community impact. But we believe that direct, values-driven action — done humbly and consistently — can drive meaningful change. We’ll continue working alongside partners like the Foundation for Slum Child Care to support vulnerable communities wherever possible.

Because sometimes, the best return isn’t measured in pips or points. It’s measured in the eyes of a child who knows they’re not forgotten.
