Markets may crash in seconds, not minutes. Ignoring major news is certainly risky. NFP may not be as critical as before but it is important to any scalper or intraday trader. I would say it is a matter of preference.

There are 20 days a month to trade, 24 hours a day. That's 480 hours a month, 28 800 mins a month. NFP lasts about 5 mins.
Why on earth do you want to focus on the 5 mins ?!
By the way, there's about 25 000 to 40 000 value changes a day on a pair. You are completely ignoring those by focusing on the value changes on NFP alone.
I am not focusing only on NFP, nor ignoring the remaining changes, but paying attention to it as well. If you think it's not that important, just ignore it - it is up to you. Good luck!
