I like a lot of winning trades in a row! More profit on the average for sure. All the trades have to be closed to really evaluate the outcome of the winning streak.

Testing a strategy, an EA or a cBot on a demo account first, is a must. The length of the test can vary but 2-4 weeks seems to be enough before going live. If the trader is new to the FX market an initial 2-3 month is needed to learn the trading platform before even thinking of using robots to execute trades.

That I have no experience about, getting disconnected. It all depends on where you are located and if you are trading your algorithms on a VPS or are depending on your local computer to handle the cBots. For the serious trader I highly recommend a VPS server. With a live account funded higher den $400 it will end up as a free VPS with less slippage and faster execution and an overall cost saving for the trader.

Only good things to say about cAlgo and cTrader brokers. Very tight spread, hardly any slippage and no interference from a trading desk. DMA, direct market access and I could go on listing all the advantages of the platform. Also there is a lot of free downloads available for the platform. RMMRobot.com is one site you should look into to get free downloads for the platform.

It all depends on what kind of broker and platform used if it differs between demo and live accounts. I don't really think it is that much of a difference. When trading live so many other aspect comes into the picture, that can cloud our judgment to believe that when when we are trading live, everything change. Suddenly we get much more slippage, stop loss hunting and so forth. It's more of an emotional issue and psychological issue I believe. rob559,do not really understand why a daily target is bad. It's just a target and most often it does not come through. At least it's a plan that we have predefined before going into action for the day. A setup of a daily profit and a stop loss agreed upon before bailing out and call it quits for the day, can't see anything wrong in such an approach. On the contrary it gives us some control of what to expect in everyday trading, regardless if we are in profit or loss. NextGenFund,of course risk management is crucial and not only on separate positions, but on the whole account as well. A DD of 40% will not hold up. The profit might spike up and one will feel secured that it is working the way it's intended to do, until the next 30-40% DD will appear and suddenly that will make the strategy very insecure, at least nerve breaking :). Why not have a strategy with less risk? 20% DD at max seems to be a very good threshold, above that threshold, the strategy is at risk of not holding up in the long run.

mlawson71,all depends on what you mean. If you are referring to in taking an incredible high risk of the trading account it is possible but only for a short period of time, in the long run, trading with a very high risk strategy it will catch up, and eventually it will blow the account.

Professional4X.500% growth for example as you mentioned on a micro account before funding more into the live account, it is not possible with good money management. It will take probably years with that kind of strategy you are referring to. Better to have really low expectations like max 100% profit within a year, even 60% is really a good return before funding more money.

The demo account is perfect for testing new cBots and EA's. First test the new robot on a demo account and then after a week or two of being satisfied that the new robot is doing what it is expected to do, it's ready for live trading. That is why a demo account is such a great utility for the trader , to give us insurance that a robot works as it's been advertised to perform. Hi Franck,there might be spikes of the draw down, as in your case. It's very important however that we are aware of this and make the necessary changes needed to bring down the risk. You have the right attitude and I'm glad to hear you are more concerned about the draw down in the first place, then profit. Profit is the outcome when the DD is in control.

The longer time an EA, cBot is operating the higher the chances are of a higher draw down. The first year running, under 10% draw down is very good, The second year under 15% is acceptable, the third year 20%.Draw downs higher then 20% a year reflects taking too much of a risk of the trading account. 25% draw down as Franck Cirna suggested should be the maximum allowed depending on the strategy at place.More about this and other risk & money management principles can be read at RMMRobot.com

Depending on the broker of course, if a demo account is similar to a live account. Market makers brokers can give you a positive feeling of a demo account while DMA and ECN brokers have a tendency to be very close between the two. Testing different brokers and platforms with a demo account first and then after a few months of demoing, go for a live account with a funding of between $200-$500 will provide the trader with the proof, if there are any differences between the demo and the live account.

If you have a mixture of long term targets and short term targets you just can't ignore daily and weekly goals. This of course depends on what time frame one is trading on. If you are strictly a swing trader then a weekly target should do it. If you are a day trader and by not having a daily and a weekly stop loss, target of the trading account, I would say that is "psychology suicide".
