In reality, demo and live turn out to be noticeably different. Speed of order processing seems to be the largest difference, but it can be determinative aspect especially for short termers
That often depends on the broker. With some brokers I've noticed almost no difference, with others the difference is considerable. Unfortunately this stuff becomes noticeable only after you open a live account somewhere.

True some Brokers are worse than others, shop around for the best you can find,I was testing out a platform weeks ago, which I would not go back too.

True, you need to test the broker extensively after you've made sure they're licensed and legitimate. I've had those experiences too - started working with a legitimate broker, checked their platform and it turned out it wasn't suited to my needs at all, so I left.

I don't think that using a demo account is the same thing of trading with real money.
I think that one of the most important thing in trading is money management...
...and you can only learn about it using real money.
The pressure that you feel with real money is completely different from that you feel in a demo account.
This is what happens when you use a demo account:
- you play and you win a lot of (fake) money
- you put a lot of real money into a real account and then you loose everything :)
Demo accounts are useful just to learn to use a new platform.
When you feel confident with the platform I suggest you to play with real money using a very very very low percentage of your balance and slowly increasing it.

You may use demo to test different strategies, which to use afterwards on real account. Truly on demo acc you don’t feel the pressure of worries of losing real money, but also gives you priceless experience on the market. My opinion is to first try the demo and see if you are good to this job – after that you may put small amount of money on real – just to feel the difference. And after those two tests are suitable for you – only then to start this.

The demo account is perfect for testing new cBots and EA's. First test the new robot on a demo account and then after a week or two of being satisfied that the new robot is doing what it is expected to do, it's ready for live trading. That is why a demo account is such a great utility for the trader , to give us insurance that a robot works as it's been advertised to perform. The RMMRobot.com site has some very interesting free robots to download if you are intersted in being on top of, how your trading is progressing.

500% growth for example as you mentioned on a micro account before funding more into the live account, it is not possible with good money management. It will take probably years with that kind of strategy you are referring to. Better to have really low expectations like max 100% profit within a year, even 60% is really a good return before funding more money.

It's not possible with or without good money management?

mlawson71,
all depends on what you mean. If you are referring to in taking an incredible high risk of the trading account it is possible but only for a short period of time, in the long run, trading with a very high risk strategy it will catch up, and eventually it will blow the account.

Whatever account you use though, has anyone tried trading with the Web-based version of MT4? I know that the software developer recently added a bunch of new indicators to it (https://theforexreview.com/2016/02/15/mt4-webtrader-adds-bill-williams-technical-analysis-indicators/) and that supposedly made it more practical, but I have concerns about its safety. Any opinions?

Good point mlawson71, I have to echo your doubt. As MT4 is more and more accepted by brokers and even retail bankers like Citibank or others...I had a feeling that it may be tackled by very expert IT people; that means, if your EA/Strategy has any storage or safety issue.. it can be tackled or compromised by 3rd party at any of the nodes in between. IT security is a big subject and there are many thing in between. Any professional trader has insight or suggestion, how to protect EA/Strategy that you develop for the MT4/MT5 account?

Hi all,
As a new trader I am trying to develop strategies in demo accounts before registering for real accounts. Is this enough though for me to be ready to enter the real markets?
Thank you!
Yes, it's more than enough if you have good performance without scalping, martingale, grid strategies!
Good luck.

From my experience, they turn out to be different afterall, I have never noticed that the volatility would hit demo to same extent as live, having opened same direction positions
Really? How come? The charts of demo and live accounts are identical, at least in my experience.

Hello,
i dont mind that charts are identical, I actually mean speed of order processing which is can hugely be impacted by volatility with lives and be usual in demos at the same time
