MatLab is a pretty epic one for sure - I am currently learning that. But I am not entirely sure whether or not you can actually run a strategy on it. It's more to do with complex scenarios where-by, dependent upon your system's metrics (i.e, strike rate, % trades that are break even, average profit ratio etc.), you can simulate 1,000's upon 1,000's of individual random integers. These effectively represent individual trades, and in essence give you an idea of "what could happen" or what a typical equity curve may look like, so that you have something rigid and robust ...

What isn't a gamble in life? Are Property portfolio managers gambling? Do they really know what the house is worth, do they know there risks in purchasing a house and selling it? They have no control over the housing markets... but they quantify their risk accordingly. Is starting your own business a gamble? What about if you took a loan out to kick start it up? What happens if the proposition happened to be down to bad timing... would that be "unlucky", despite the wealth of planning that went into it? Would that be a gamble? What if I had an already established car mechanics? Do ...

(facepalm) - I don't think you understand how the word draw-down applies to various contexts within trading. Your martingale time bomb system you have hooked up has sat through a disgusting 55+% draw-down... That is drawdown, despite what your month ending balance is...And to be honest, it's the most horrific system you could have bought too... Don't write back to me with a hostile attitude, I am telling you, that is a matter of time before it blows up, irrelevant of what the month ending balance is.

If you continue to search and purchase EA's online, you will be forever stuck at the first stage of learning anything to do with trading at all - take my advise and forget about EA's now and move on...

The specific strategy and its corresponding track record will be the centre fold of an investors decision and the relevant peak to trough DD / volatility. If I was aggressive and invested a notional value in relation to my overall cash wealth, then I'd be more happy to incur a larger draw-down. (This is thanks to leverage supplied by liquidity providers.)On the other hand, if I were a larger investor, and wanted to invest more cash into the given fund/manager, then I may not have the same leverage ratio's available to me because of the sheer size of the deposited funds - i.e. £1m+...

Picking up EA's on the web is THE most retarded thing you could possibly do.I would NEVER sell my systems in a million years - the only way I'd sell it, is if a hedge fund offered me enough to retire on - that and I didn't want to trade any more...Other than that, think logically why someone is selling you a system... Trading is about longevity and understanding a systems metrics relative to producing a positive expectancy or not... Picking up a system (most are martingale pieces of shit) on the net, will produce you returns... but NOT in the long run, and I mean your entire accoun...

I completely disagree. There is no logical reason to decreasing your risk percentage of your closing balance? If you choose 2% risk profile of your closing balance then it is always 2% of your closing balance...Why would you decrease your risk profile on winning trades, and what, keep it in the same on losses? Or decrease it then too.... If you knew what you were talking about you`d fully understand the implications through back-testing and vigorously understanding how MM effects your bottom line through messing around with your risk profile....I am not sure why I am even bothering explaining ...

Is it just me or does anyone else find this thread (and some posts - no offence) a little strange?(example - numbers are rounded to nearest pound to keep it simple...)Balance: $10,000Risk: 2% - $200.00 (at this point, assuming a loss is $200 and a win is $400 (1:2 R;R)Loss: $200.00 - Account at close is $9,800 - 2% is now = $196Loss: $196.00 - Account at close is $9604 - 2% is now = $192 (rounded)Loss: $192.00 - Account at close is $9412 - 2% is now = $188 (rounded)Win: $376.00 - Account at close is $9788 - 2% is now = $196 (rounded)Win: $392.00 - Account at close is $10,180 - 2% is now ...

Good stuff. Am I right in saying that all it takes it one seriously bad week/month etc for your account to go bust though despite having a high strike rate all at the hands of your mental stops?Be interesting to see how long this account lasts for (said in a positive tone as I wish you all the best)Thanks for clarifying and writing back.

"Developing a trading plan with more than 51% success rate."Agree with everything else. But the strike rate is dependent on the strategy at hand (unless you`re referring to your own rules)

He has duplicate positions where he enters 3x in one market after a few minutes. He`ll blow up before the end of the competition. One trade and he`ll wipe out most of his gains mark my words.Everyone stop getting a stiffy over it. Wait until the end of the competition, I see this every time they have a competition.
