The Malaysia stock market on Thursday ended the two-day winning streak in which it had collected more than 20 points or 1.3 percent. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index new rests just above the 1,490-point plateau although it may tick higher again on Friday.

A report released by the Institute for Supply Management on Thursday showed its reading on U.S. manufacturing activity remained at a two-year low in August. The ISM said its manufacturing PMI came in at 52.8 in August, unchanged from July. Economists had expected the index to edge down to 52.0.

Labor productivity in the U.S. tumbled by less than previously estimated in the second quarter, according to revised data released by the Labor Department on Thursday. The Labor Department said labor productivity dove by 4.1 percent in the second quarter compared to the previously reported 4.6 percent plunge.
