As the contest goes on, more interesting data emerge onthe 3812 contestants: 1) only 710 of them have any positive equity (1% or above), that is just 18% of the contestants;2) of the ones with 100% equity or above, of which there are 72 - which is 1.8% of the contestants - a) five of them have 50% or higher drawdown; b) thirteen of them have 40% - 49% drawdown; c) eleven of them have 30% - 39% drawdown.Are these healthy numbers?The jury is out.

Well, all you do is go into the list tabs and click on 'Equity' or 'Drawdown' to put the contestants' list in order byhighest to lowest equity, or drawdown, etc.

yes, absolutely, but even automated strategies need a risk manager to allocate parameters that programmers implement,so a human element of risk-taking or risk-aversion still is at the core.

Out of interest, since the contest opened (last Sunday night)out of the 3812 contestants there are already 807 whoseequity is negative and already 329 who have a drawdown of50% or higher.The very top traders' trades all have extremely high leverageand some of them may well disappear shortly due to overexposure- of a kind that you would never attempt with real money.What this says about these contests is that they do not measuretrading business skills or a trader's potential for longevity in the marketsbut a Russian-roulette style of 'trading' that has very little to do with act...

Check the smallprint, always...some brokers will only lock your contest funds in a live account for a period but then you can withdraw them...others may just give them to you right away but still get the reward through publicity exposure...

This is exactly what I was getting at in my earlier posts, namely, that there is no level playing field here...When they advertise these contests they do not say 'By the way, people will be allowed to use robots/EAs so forgetmanual trading'... They should just advertise EA contests separately...Some people on here responded by saying that there is no big difference between repetitive manual trading and an EA,only an EA is a more efficient way of doing what is done manually, in some styles of trading...I partly disagree with this type of mixing, because if anyone who does not do EAs (an...

I agree, designing an EA is indeed a skill... I guess I am more interested in discretionary, manual trading than automated trading... Also, automated vs. manual in a short space of time is probably not as even a playing field as it would be if all participantswere obliged to trade manually but that is entirely my opinion.I apologise if I came out a bit strong earlier, and all the best of luck to us all, EA or not :)To Jessica Frisbee: in what way do you need help? I should hope not...what is the point of sticking a robot on and calling that a contest entry???I hope that anyone hoping for 6000% profits is doing it manually, for that is a skill, not switching onan EA...Just my opinion :)

Hello everyone! I was 172 last time I checked, about half an hour before the closing of the competition...There were, I think, 3717 participants, so I did not do too bad...+60% profit on the account...I still cannot believe some people had, like, 6,000% profit... Were robots/EA allowed? Do we get an acknowledgement e.mail from ValuTrades with our final ranking? Also, when is the next contest?:)
