Any Fielding Financial Robot (FFR) Traders?

Thanks for the acknowledgment autopilot. A number of FFR traders are sharing their learning to help each other understand the risks and how best to set the robot to trade safely. It must be highlighted that the FFR system is not a simple martingale system, and it has a number of safety features that can be used to protect you, for example to restrict the length of strings to protect your margins when charts trend. The real art is finding a way to make decent profits (not 100% stuff...really aimed at 5-15% per month) without putting too much risk on your capital. The FFR team provide assistance...

Hi Alan,I started the original thread to see who was using FFR and how they were getting on. I was especially interested as I lost money on my second day's trading. Since then this thread has been mainly about discussing some of the risks of using FFR or similar systems for trading, rather than being a family discussion group. However you may be interested in joining an email group that a number of FFR traders have formed over the last few months...after attending a couple of Family Days I have been networking with a number of FFR users and we have grown into a group of about 20 traders, w...

I guess the nature of Forex trading is that you cannot predict easily (if at all) what the charts are going to do...AUD/USD has been in a long-term climb, but generally over that climb there has been sufficient movement in both directions for Martingales to work effectively. I totally understand and accept that Forex trading is risky...it is classed as Spread Betting by the UK Tax and Excise body, so that does tell you something! You are correct in that when Martingale-based strategies fail they tend to fail big style. The advantage that FFR has over most Martingale robots is that it has a lot ...

To explain my comments - My loss last week was caused by a string of 10 deals on AUD/USD which, when first occurred, only accounted for about 20% of my equity...but as the chart continued to rise the value of those 10 deals rose until they were worth 100% of my equity and the account was cleared out. Now, if I had limited the number of strings to say 7, the value of those open trades would be a lot lower (as each deal doubles the previous one), and my equity would have had enough margin to survive until the chart reached 1.21 (which realistically is unlikely to happen) so unless the chart neve...

Autopilot...sorry that you have also lost money on FFR. I guess that there is a high chance of anyone who had deals in the AUD/USD chart losing money recently...the chart gained something like 650 pips during April, and if your deals were traded at just the wrong times, then the value of those open deals would test all bar the largest of fund balances.I am giving it another go...am now transferring some money from my Green account into Red and trying again...I am not adding any new money into the robot though...just splitting out my remaining cash over the two accounts. If you keep the Max Str...

Yes, I will be continuing to use it. I have looked again at my settings and reduced the maximum length of the strings to around 7 and 8 on my charts, which will protect me from similar repeats of what happened with the AUD/USD chart (which hit a record 1.10 today)I am not sure if there is ever a perfect setting, but I have done some work reviewing the impact on equity levels of different string lengths measured against different lot sizes, and it is possible to eliminate any such losses by reducing the string sizes...this may well be through sacrificing some of the higher profits, but clearly ...

Happy to comment...I agree, and of course I have been pretty worried since the USD fell significantly against most currencies at the same time as the AUD shot up...other charts were affected too, but AUD/USD was by far the biggest concern. Any straight Martingale system would have lost all my money for definite, but as the FFR system allows you to set the maximum string length now, which I had set to the default of 10, it still gives me some scope for recovery. It has been correctly pointed out earlier in this thread that any Martingale-based system have an inherent weakness in that if currenci...

That's positive to read Pete. I also started with no Forex experience and have learned a lot very quickly. The FFR system includes a lot of settings that require a decent amount of awareness and knowledge, and I will be the first to admit that the advertising for it did over-simplify what you need to do to make it work well, but with the latest refinements it is shaping up to be a pretty reliable system, and the advice and support is very good.I am very pleased with the returns I am getting, having now made up my initial loss, and am aiming to repay my initial investment within a year, whi...

That's great to read Mike.I too was cautious about signing up to FFR (not that I was an experienced trader, just that what Gill said on her Riches presentation seemed to good to be true), but like yourself, I too trust Gill and Peter, and I have found the FFR team very helpful, and my returns since my initial loss in January have been good. The latest version has good some great enhancements, and these will offer a great deal of protection to the risk of loss.Best wishes.

You are indeed correct.FFR does have all those settings already, straight out of the box. The latest upgrade just improves it significantly by allowing the user to restrict the length of any string of trades, and thus protect your money from a 100% loss event, which is clearly a risk with the double-down approach.Given there has been criticism of the system here I felt it only proper to clarify this significant upgrade in the control environmnet within the package.Cheers.

UPDATE - Re Martingale SystemsI have found out today that Gill Fielding is amending her Fielding Financial Robot (FFR) EA next week so that you can set the number of maximum strings the EA will start as part of the system settings...which effectively means that you can control the risk against trending currencies, and it will be possible to prevent any drawdown losses, even though this is a Martingale system. Of course if the number of strings hits your maximum, that chart will just sit there earning nothing until the currency pairing bounces back again and you eventually close out a profit, b...

You are correct in that FFR is indeed a Martingale system (I didn't realise it had a name but a little research confirmed that is what it is). I do agree that it is risky, but all Forex trading is high risk. The FFR system allows you to spread the risk through being able to set the EA to turn trading off at the riskier days or times (for example mid-month, when currencies tend to get a bit jumpy with the various economic announcements). I have found that spreading the risk with small lot sizes over multiple charts is working well, with good returns so far. I will raise the points you menti...

I have never used any other robots so I am unsure how many of them work...FFR works by (and I believe the technical term for this is) averaging into position, where the robot continues to double up lot sizes on a run of trades going in the wrong direction, so that when the currency pairing bounces back the profits on the larger, more recent, trades outweighs the losses on the earlier, smaller, trades, and you make a net profit. What caused our losses was the "drawdown %", which is basically the % of our funds we are prepared to risk at one time. In the normal cycle of ups and downs of...

To be fair, Wilkinson, those losses were very early on, not just for us, but also for the robot itself. The product was launched late last year, and although Gill had learned a lot from trading and experimenting with her own money for a year, very occasionally something comes along that provides a learning experience...in the case of our losses it was the shock announcement on 25 January that the UK economy had gone back into negative growth, taking the markets and economists completely by surprise. There are always going to be odd spikes in the markets like that, the problem was that Gill had ...

Hi all,I have just started using the FFR Expert Adviser, and went "live" trading this week. Not too good a start though as I got hit by the sudden and shock fall of the GBP following the negative UK GDP announcement this morning. Hit my drawdown at 15% on only my second day of trading. I expect the shock to the markets affected many traders.Anyone out there using FFR wish to share their trading experiences?Happy Tradings!David.
