Hey, MT4 platforms runs with high resources, I cannot say it in numbers. But if you have a look at https://www.cheap-forex-vps.com/index.php/forex-vps-plans you can see an average number of MT4 platforms according to the technical ressources.
It is tough, and once my VPS has been frozen because of a high volume of data transfer. So choose wisely the correct service to run the number of platforms you need.
Yours faithfully

I suggest to use a VPS to run Expert Advisors to get most out from your script. Rather its batter to find Forex broker who offer optimized vps service for its clients. Some broker allow free vps for trader with some conditions, other offer a cheap rate vps for their trader

I run 7 MT4 platforms om my 5 years old computer.
On each of them is EA working 5 days 24 hours.
I restart computer once , in weekend.
But I have one secret : My EA do NOT work on every tick.
I have input parameter now often to work : normally once on 5 sec
Those , if I have more terminals working, I have to increase No Working time.
And the CPU load will be the same. (usually below 20%)

I have run two different platforms at the same time together with a bunch of other software on a pretty old computer, I didn't experience any noticeable lag.

Also if charts have open indicators this could slow down the performance. In my experience, if I run EAs or indicators that take every tick, this creates also large log files and reduces the speed significantly. As far as I know, the MT4 platform uses the processor more than the RAM, so this has certain limitations. Maybe you can try with another VPS solution if you haven't found a fix yet.

When I open in the same screen multiple terminals, I notice that my PC slows down, although it has 16 GB RAM. I guess it has something to deal with my video card as it is not a high end one. I use 3-4 indicators on a chart max.

Why using VPS for EAs will be a good option? Please can you explain a bit more? I suppose you have good experience you can share.

Yes, this may be the case. I personally use only one platform and all is fine even if I open many charts and number of indicators on each.

Looking back, I think the video posted by pipmenow explains all quite well and gives a good advice how to keep the terminal performance at optimum level.

I run 20 regularly on a dedicated server. If you're co-hosting on a VPS someone else might be getting your resources. I don't think I'd have any problem going to 40 or higher.

But I also have a very high spec server, 32 GIG RAM and everything that comes with that...

Actually metaquotes imposes a limit of 32 MT4 instances on computer/vps/server.
So no, you cant run 40. You can run 32 max.
I run 32 on my dedicated server, with optimization it runs smoothly, without opt it is terrible regardless the params.

32 MT4 platforms at the same time? Are you kidding me… How will someone be able to manage them all and follow their charts.. On the other side – I would love to watch someone manage more than 20 platforms at the same time. This is going to be insane!!!

I guess it is all down to what do you have shown and added to the terminals (charts, indicators, EAs etc.).

I have a problem of slow or not responding MT4 platforms. I don't think that my resources are the problem, or are they? I use a VPS with 6GB Ram and quad core processors. What would limit me from running as many MT4 platforms that I want? It seems the more I run the slower they get. If I check to resources being used I only see about 1.5GB RAM being used and about 15% processor power, but still the more platforms I run the slower and slower it gets. They are all still reporting to myfxbook every 5 minutes, but if I try to view the platform it does not always display or takes a very long time. The problem is worse during heavy market activity. At night when the market are slower the platforms respond quicker. Each platforms has an average of 4-8 charts open each running one EA. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.

You need to look at band width to get best service. here you can look at https://www.forexcheapvps.com/ here u will find 6GB ram with Unlimited Bandwidth, 300GB SSD Disk will give you more space. It has 5 Core CPU with Auto Backup.

I see, you have already got your answer! In addition, here I am working with my only one live trading account! I don’t need to use multiple mt4 trading platforms! Yes, I have invested all of my money into my 1 live trading account! This trading plan helps me to trade with better concentration!

I think that looking to run multiple MT4 is the wrong thing to do . I have one Mt4 and only 4 charts open. Keep it simple and focus on profits
