New Zealand Building Permits Rebound In November

(RTTNews) - The number of building consents issued in New Zealand was up a seasonally adjusted 5.3 percent on month in November, Statistics New Zealand said on Monday - erasing the 5.2 percent decline in October.

In November, there were 3,100 new dwellings consented, including 1,437 townhouses, flats, and units; 1,402 stand-alone houses; 186 apartments; and 75 retirement village units.

In the year ended November 2024, the actual number of new dwellings consented was 33,609, down 12 percent from the year ended November 2023.

The annual value of non-residential building work consented was NZ$9.4 billion, down 1.6 percent from the year ended November 2023.

New Zealand Hints At More Interest Rate Cuts

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand reduced its key interest rate by 25 basis points to a three-year low and hinted at further easing on Wednesday. The Monetary Policy Committee, governed by Christian Hawkesby, voted to lower the Official Cash Rate to 3 percent from 3.25 percent. The bank has reduced the rate by 250 basis points since August 2024.
