I traded 2-3 years full-time, and I have more than 10 years (part-time/hobby) trading experience.I agree on money mgmt, but would like to point out also, that when running one-man trading business, it's verydifficult to perform daily year-in year-out. Usually since I have no boss in my trading, I abandon my trading planfrom time to time, since there is no outside pressure.Somekind of peer-to-peer working with another trader would propably help. Both would review and superviseeach other's trading-plans and that they are enforced, as well as money mgmt. anyone has experience on this?Trad...

I was full-time..it's not as much fun as you'd think, at least year-in year-out. I switched back to part-time and do other jobs as well (sometimes not trading at all for months in a row)..You'll learn a lot being full-time and especially you learn if it's suitable for you or not..
Which real accounts have most dollar profits here?

Hi! I'd like to search for accounts that have most dollar/euro, not percentage profit here. Also I have noticed that abs. gain%is much more accurate than gain% here...if you want money, not percentages :-)I know all live accounts are not really hard cash, some are cent accounts for example, but I can filter them out when I spot them...Those who hide balances and have something to show, you could show it and then hide again if you wish, but if I were selecting e.g PAMM manager, I would not look into track record that hides dollar-profits...As starting poing, I'll provide my own accounts...
Brokers - Why do we still pay spreads?

Hello all! The motivation of this discussion seems to be profits (through cost-cutting), so the problem is mainly practical not academic ;)So in practise:1. What spreads you're getting now? 2. How low-spreads would make you change broker (assuming slippage/other factors equal)Please state the pairs you trade and their spreads including commissions.Regards,-Mika

Those who have more than 1k Investable assets, I would like to get your answer, I have no way to verify this. Why I ask is that I have not seen many live accounts here that have even 10k balance in funds. If there is a statistic on MFB for funds on live accounts, please point me there, but I doubt there is.It would be nice to see at least one answer here to be backed by a meaningful size live account. I have around 17k€ funds here on my public accounts. That is not all my investable assets, though, They total more like 50k€A range of e.g. 20k-50k will be a fine answer, if you don'...

I would like to have more detailed parameters for search feature (i.e. Click Systems and you'll have a search panel at left)Especially avg.win and avg. loss or R:R ratio would be needed, and profitability %.I'm in search of systems with less than 50% profitability and big R:R, which are rare here.Regards,-Mikaps. Happy (and profitable) New Year!

The previous poster has a point! As always an exception proves the point. I'd like to point out that I might have the longest profitable trackrecord in myfxbook. I also show the balances/equitys in my stats, while most other 'managers' don't.I started this account in December 2008, the myfxbook history was cut on April 2013, since I had to migrate to Oanda Europe. Also I had to change to MT4 account recently. The account is all the same in 3 links, but if you don't believe it, check the first link to see the longest(?) history in MFB.http://www.myfxbook.com/members/mmuller/...

I traded stocks since around 2004, experimenting with currency options led me to forex around 2007-2008..I also abandoned stock/futures trading to concentrace only on forex in 2012, and haven't regretted :)
Reasonable Drawdown to Monthly Gain

I think that historically below 10% DD has been associated with below 10% annual gains. I.e. there has been no multiyear verified track-record of anyone that would have very small DD% and still annual gains of over 30%. Since Myfxbook accounts are typically small and less than 6 months old, the gains there can not be compared to famous fund managers for example.I currently trade my own money only, but I plan to offer managed accounts soon also. Target audience for those accounts should be satisfied with annual returns of 15%-20% a year or about twice the return than public nowadays expect from...

Hi conorp! I agree to your principles on assessing a system. It's possible to use search engine with specific criteria to compare systems/track records of users here.Just click "systems" on the main menu and you'll find it...I myself try to trade with R:R ratio you described, it's of course easier said than done. My account(s) is quite close to your requirements, although I had to split it into 2 myfxbook accounts, because my of the change in my broker OANDA division from US to Europe..http://www.myfxbook.com/members/mmuller/invest/255170http://www.myfxbook.com/members/mm...

I want to start a serious blog/website about long-term profitable traders. This venture would propably benefit all who participate...and I want to hear more aboutyour goals as traders. I don't want any spam on "good traders trade, good bloggers blog!"..because money is made by trying to makemoney again and again, not by talking bs year-in-year out :)just serious conversation please!Check my public trackrecords here.http://www.myfxbook.com/members/mmuller/invest/255170http://www.myfxbook.com/members/mmuller/invest2/538576I must not be a population of one (profitable long-term), so...

Thanks. I find myfxbook really improving trade results also, if you use it right. It can lead to sloppy trading though, if you think that myfxbook will do you homework for you 100%. It must only be used to avoid menial work of crunching numbers ourselves...and benchmarking :)Anyway, I have heard that people have actually been able to attract investors via myfxbook track records. I think I would be ready to try that, just not sure if there are any investors really reading these forums (plenty of moneymanagers, EA-salesmen and signalproviders though).I'm also looking for finance-related job,...

Hi! I was trying to benchmark my account against other that have traded for 1, 2 or 3 years minimum AND using manual trading.I also put a requirement that the balances must be visible and have to be in range of $10,000+I got a result that my trackrecord is pretty good. Even without the $10,000 balance requirement it stands out asbest in systems in a group aged 3+ years.http://www.myfxbook.com/members/mmuller/invest/255170other good systems I found:http://www.myfxbook.com/members/TPOTrader/nocturnalfx/527801http://www.myfxbook.com/members/alexholder/debt-account/219158those had a bit larger DD ...
What Does Your Trade Journal Looks Like

Hi! My advise is to not make too many details/columns in trading journals. You have to make sure its quite lightweight to update. Myfxbook stores details of the trade anyway.I would put there pair/SL/Profit-target/Risked-amount along with a reason for the trade, and afterthought whichshould also describe/rate how well you followed your tradeplan..Trading for me has been successful whenever I have kept my work up-to-date AND also followed my trading plans.-Mika
Best traders: How to detect them?

Hi forexpipcatcher! We both have made more money with trading than lost. It is not true for most traders I guess, so I think we should both qualify to teach people to trade better, no matter how we do it.I did forgot to tell about my trading style, which is manual trading and quite long holding periods. My average holding period is more than 10 days (stop-loss can hit on day1, or a trend can carry my position even 4 months). I checked your system stats, and it seems your holding period is very short, averaging less than 10mins?I trade across the board stocks, commodities and forex. I have made ...

You all have good points about MM and win/loss ratio. Still all the mentioned stuff here is theoretical. It's easy to say those things with no real money involved. It is also easy to trade with $100 and double it in months without even the abovementioned rules. Then again with $100,000 it is much harder to get even 10% in a year consistently, even though you would know all the above mentioned rules and much more!I traded for a living about 2,5 years, but could not continue to do so for various reasons (problems in private life due to divorce etc. which in effect were a drag moneywise also)...

Hi!Actually that job offer was reduced to possible short-term consulting assignments in the future. So might have full-time trading possibility again. You were right, I could not get out of "trading full-time spirit"....I doubt I ever can, unless some totally new profession comes, which I love more than trading. Now I have to worry both, uncertainty of possible non-trading-related assignments, and uncertainty of markets...but actually the latter is my friend, since there would be no money to make in trading without fair sized risk ;)...-Mika
