United Kingdom CBI Business Optimism Index
The Confederation of British Industry's Industrial Trends Survey publishes the Business Optimism Index in the United Kingdom. Each quarter, an average of 400 manufacturing-related small, medium, and large firms are polled. The Questionnaire collects information on the overall sentiment toward the general and export business situation, investment, capacity, order books, employment, output, stocks, price competitiveness in the domestic, EU, and non-EU markets, as well as innovation and training. A sub-index is calculated for each assessment as the difference between the percentage of positive and negative responses. Following that, the composite index is calculated as the weighted average of the sub-indices. A score of +100 means that all survey respondents are extremely optimistic about the future, while a score of -100 indicates that all survey respondents are extremely pessimistic about the future. Neutrality is indicated by an index level of 0.

UK Budget Shortfall Overshoots Estimate
UK government borrowing increased more than expected and also exceeded the official estimate in August, adding pressure on Chancellor Rachel Reeves ahead of the November budget. Public sector net borrowing increased GBP 3.5 billion from the last year to GBP 18.0 billion in August, the Office for National Statistics said Friday.

Bank Of England Holds Key Rate; Slows Quantitative Tightening
The Bank of England left its interest rate unchanged and softened its pace of quantitative tightening on Thursday, as policymakers were wary about risks to inflation in the U.K. The BoE Monetary Policy Committee, led by Governor Andrew Bailey, voted 7-2 to maintain the bank rate at 4.00 percent.
