United Kingdom CBI Business Optimism Index
The Confederation of British Industry's Industrial Trends Survey publishes the Business Optimism Index in the United Kingdom. Each quarter, an average of 400 manufacturing-related small, medium, and large firms are polled. The Questionnaire collects information on the overall sentiment toward the general and export business situation, investment, capacity, order books, employment, output, stocks, price competitiveness in the domestic, EU, and non-EU markets, as well as innovation and training. A sub-index is calculated for each assessment as the difference between the percentage of positive and negative responses. Following that, the composite index is calculated as the weighted average of the sub-indices. A score of +100 means that all survey respondents are extremely optimistic about the future, while a score of -100 indicates that all survey respondents are extremely pessimistic about the future. Neutrality is indicated by an index level of 0.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the GBP while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the GBP.

UK Inflation Strongest Since Early 2024 On Household Bills, Employer Tax
UK consumer price inflation accelerated sharply to the highest level in more than a year in April due to higher domestic bills and the hike in employers' taxes, official data revealed on Wednesday. The UK unemployment rate edged up and wage growth softened in the first quarter ahead of the rise in payroll taxes, official data revealed on Tuesday.
