You're not wrong. Algo trading definitely takes the emotion out of the execution. But when the trades go south... that part is when it becomes hard to control the emotions. I sometimes struggle as well. Once or twice, I had gone for revenge trading, but I think I have learned my lesson now.

Even Algos need humans behind them. The thing is this, we can't 'become emotionless' as human beings so logically, we can't as  traders but instead what we can do is learn what triggers our emotions and try as much as possible to take trading actions that won't trigger these emotions that are detrimental to our trading.

For instance, using a big lot size bigger than your account size will automatically prick the greed and fear emotion in you, so why do it?

You’re right.

But if you turn the strategies into Expert Advisors and test them first and let them make the decisions for you, this problem is solved.

You just manage your risk and monitor and have fun.

Emotionless trading is an ideal that many strive for but rarely achieve fully, as emotions are an innate part of human nature. Instead of aiming to eliminate emotions, focus on managing them. Here are some strategies:

Automation: Using Expert Advisors (EAs) or algorithms can reduce emotional involvement in execution. Test thoroughly before live trading.Predefined Plans: Have a clear trading plan with entry, exit, and risk management rules. Stick to the plan to avoid emotional decisions.Risk Management: Avoid over-leveraging or using lot sizes beyond your comfort level to prevent fear or greed from taking over.Journaling: Keep a trading journal to identify emotional triggers and improve discipline over time.

Adapt, analyze, and achieve — one trade at a time.

I use EA to keep emotions out. How'd you handle emotions?

To become an emotionless trader, develop a solid trading plan, use risk management strategies, stick to predefined rules, and avoid impulsive decisions. Focus on data, backtesting, and maintaining discipline to minimize emotional influence.

Tbh, I don't think anyone can completely get over emotions while trade but risk management helps. Do you struggle with overtrading trading?

You can’t remove emotions, but you can control them. Follow a plan, set clear rules, and don’t risk more than you can handle. Take breaks and don’t rush trades. The more disciplined you are, the calmer you’ll be. 😊

I think irrespective of how many times did we mention to control emotions but it did happen with everyone at some point. Isn't it?

Trading without emotions is nearly impossible but managing them is what really matters. Having a clear strategy and sticking to it makes a big difference. I try to keep my trades structured with predefined entry and exit points so I do not make impulsive decisions. Also risk management is key because if you are comfortable with what you are risking there is less fear involved. Taking breaks helps too especially after a losing streak.

I feel whether take these points in focus or not. Many learn the hard way and then never repeat those mistakes.

Becoming an emotionless trader takes practice. Focus on a solid strategy, stick to your plan, and manage risk properly. Avoid emotional decisions by setting clear entry and exit rules. Over time, experience and discipline will help you detach from trades emotionally.

Becoming emotionless in trading requires strict adherence to a well-defined plan, including entry/exit rules and risk management. Use tools like stop-loss orders and position sizing to remove decision-making in the heat of the moment. Practice mindfulness and treat losses as part of the process, not personal failures. Consistency and discipline will help you stay detached.

We need to put your mind in control. Our consciousness make programs to auto sabotage and how to combat that? Risk management, focus on now and don't change our strategies all time.

Trading is often the easiest way to make the hardest money.....I think we gotta accept losses are part of the game. When you do your backtest, there are bound to be losses, right? So just accept it.You cannot be winning 6 times in a row... That said, I think I traded better in my early 20s. I've pivoted to build algos almost 1.5 years ago. Algos have more consistency and precision which I like. Good luck!

My trades are available for social copying at IC Social. Find me on X @blufxnet.
