FXGeersDOTcom, I fully enjoy the race to the bottom in terms of spreads. I remember when EURUSD at 4-5 points was considered "competitive" in early 2000s when only a few retail brokers were operating. Now there are 250+ MT4 brokers out there competing for client business, and the smartest way to push yourself out front is to reduce your spread, which we are seeing with brokers like Excel Markets who are offering spreads at 0.4 plus 0.5 commission = 0.9 effective spread. Awesome move.
With all the spread monitor tools out there, more people are choosing brokers based on the tightest spread and so we are seeing brokers compete with each other on spread. Of course execution speed matters as well, and there are already tools out there that measure execution speed and slippage, and it is only a matter of time before brokers are sorted and ranked on the basis of spread + speed.
As for getting to rock bottom, I still think we have a long way to go. I believe that even at 0.9 effective spread on EURUSD, the smart brokers with intelligent routing technologies are still making a 0.6 profit (300% markup from a 0.2 raw spread). But the transaction costs are much better than they were, and they will get much better still.
I would love to see more fat, greedy brokers (who still charge spreads of 2 or more on EURUSD) go out of business to the more competitive brokers who charge less than 1.3 on EURUSD.

The Brokers don´t give you information about real spread, only normal spread, sometimes in XAUUSD spread grow very much, and brokers don´t give you data of slippage, they always blame market conditions.

Yes, any USD sensitive news will cause gold's spread to get quite insane no matter what broker you use.
I believe this is the result of just how much gold can move on news, and liquidity providers acting accordingly to manage risk as they make the market in gold spot. You wouldn't want to be left holding the proverbial bag either if there was a sudden shock to the USD and you were in their shoes.
If you watch gold futures (GC) it's pretty much the same, sometimes worse actually.

I believe that brokers that can offer you a ECN account will do the job just fine.
Try to learn about the platforms they can offer to you.
There are no easy days in trading.
Learn the craft.
Best regards.

I did the same. It is useable a lot. But sometimes there are different conditions like leverage on nano versus regular account
