The Commerce Department said factory orders fell by 1.3 percent in July after plunging by 4.8 percent in June. Economists had expected factory orders to decrease by 1.4 percent.

A report released by the Commerce Department on Tuesday showed construction spending in the U.S. unexpectedly edged slightly lower in the month of July. The Commerce Department said construction spending slipped by 0.1 percent to an annual rate of $2.139 trillion in July after falling by 0.4 to a revised rate of $2.141 trillion in June.
