I use to trade like you.
- Not wanting to take a small loss here and there
- More concerned about the statistics than letting the strategy play out the statistics for me
- Add more funds if in doubt ( from over leveraging which turns into excessive DD )
- I thought it was OK to float a temporary DD of 70% equity ( intraday)
- Stoploss wasn't used
- Focused on the Big picture from technical analysis on Daily Weekly charts including fundamentals
The Strategy
- Float the losses and continue trading as normal.
- Continue to average down and continue to scalp my way out of the hole that i put myself in because of what I mentioned above
and all in all I learned my lesson.
Remember Trading Company ? http://www.myfxbook.com/members/Tradingcompany
Well he did the same. After reviewing his activity I said to myself " someone figured out my method =) "
It works to a certain point, as long as your pockets run deep and as long as your S/R levels hold. But myself and probably TradingCompany think back to the day that we traded like this and Say " Why didn't we just take a loss and flip our trades? "
I see you are averaging down on EURUSD ( long ) right now and sure you can continue to add funds as needed to keep you afloat as long as it takes for EURO to gain some strength or hope for the QE3 to kick in, but is this really sound? No its not, and you'll realize this at some point. Maybe not this month and maybe not next year, but just remember

Good post.
I said I seldom use stoploss but I do use when needed. This time I actually made a mistake not to put a stop loss when I long Eur/Usd at somewhere 1.43.
The key is to not overtrade. I don't let the money sitting for nothing, I move it arround to where it is best needed. That way I can have higher return overall.
I know it is not for everyone. I just do what I think is right.

I hope you dont take this offensive but you should read it carefully I guess
your system data
Total Lots 9,46
Total Trades 566
starting Balance ~200 usd
current Balance ~12.000 usd
Leverage: 1:50
average balance
(12.000+200)/2 = 6.100 usd
average Lot/Trade
9,46/566 = 0,017 Lots/Trade
average margin/trade
0,017 *140000/50 = 48 usd/trade
your graph seems good. but when you make some math as above
for each trade, average you are using %0,78 of your balance for margin and having around %30 to %50 DD due your trades are dramaticly move loss.
still with that values you need to fund account many time.
I am regret to say that in long term this system will loose. hope not but math never fails.

Hello Walker,
I don't really need to explain to you. Just want to say that the way you calculate is not right. The use of money costs money, the longer the money is in the account the more you have to pay and vice versa. So the average balance = (12,000+200) = 6100USd is wrong. You may want to look at my example in Oanda forum about how to calculate return when there are more than one deposit in the trading life of an account.
Have good trades.

I won't explain further, this is a no benefit task.
You should care more about your money and your strategy.
I care about NAV curve going up. I am very busy with my projects and may not reply to your further post. I just continue with my plan. Wish you luck.

I try to make it as low as possible at start up. with assuming 200 usd.
(12,000+200) = 6100USd
but if you increase that value the result will be more dramatic.
you are basicly risking %0,50 of you balance and having huge DD. this is what I mentioned.
when an investor want to see the curve they usually BT the system with %1,00 risk to see the DD and yearly return.
you are currently using 1/2 of test risk and again having %30 to % 50 DD.
for me there should not need any more calculation.
hope I fail.

I am not saying anything.
I have just took numbers and calculate.
math never fails.
Lets watch and see.
Again I hope I fail but hope does not effect calculations.
BTW I am not collecting money from others so I have nothing to say about my trades due it is my money.
but when some one come with public strategy and collects money then I can criticize it

I should FIX that total orders are not 566 it is 344.
your system data
Total Lots 9,46
Total Trades 344
starting Balance ~200 usd
current Balance ~12.000 usd
Leverage: 1:50
average balance
(12.000+200)/2 = 6.100 usd
average Lot/Trade
9,46/344 = 0,0275 Lots/Trade
average margin/trade
0,0275 *140000/50 = 77 usd/trade
77/6100*100 = 1,26 %risk/trade
so basicly your are loading 20ton truck with 0,25 ton and this truck having problems with that small load and having >%30 DD

Today is good. with this style NAV will catch up with the Balance to finish one cycle. The Balance is most of the time only go up.
NAV curve going up (and try have it smooth) is the goal.
9% to go on NAV to catch up the new Balance number.
