Japan Interest Rate Decision Due On Tuesday

(RTTNews) - The Bank of Japan will wrap up its monetary policy meeting on Tuesday and then announce its decision on interest rates, highlighting a light day for Asia-Pacific economic activity. The BoJ is widely expected to keep its benchmark lending rate unchanged at 0.50 percent.
South Korea will release May figures for import and export prices; in April, import prices were down 2.3 percent on year and export prices rose 0.7 percent.
Singapore will provide May data for non-oil domestic exports; in April, NODX jumped 10.4 percent on month and 12.4 percent on year, with a trade surplus of SGD14.20 billion.
Hong Kong will see May numbers for unemployment; in April, the jobless rate was 3.4 percent.

Revised data released by the Commerce Department on Thursday showed the U.S. economy shrank by more than previously estimated in the first quarter of 2025. The Commerce Department said real gross domestic product fell by 0.5 percent in the first quarter compared to the previously reported 0.2 percent dip. Economists had expected the decrease by GDP to be unrevised.

U.S. Weekly Jobless Claims Unexpectedly Dip To 236,000
A report released by the Labor Department on Thursday showed first-time claims for U.S. unemployment benefits unexpectedly fell in the week ended June 21st. The Labor Department said initial jobless claims dipped to 236,000, a decrease of 10,000 from the previous week's revised level of 246,000.
