Best answer. So the follow up should be: Why people trade currencies?

@korvix I think you missed my point. I'm saying if you put it like that then everything are gambling. And most people would argue that not everything are gamble. And pipcatcha has a point there. 3:1 risk/reward ratio trades dont usually have more than 50% accuracy. But this is out of context already. But anyway I liked that @korvix try to define what is gambling first before making conclusion. I think anyone asking if forex gambling or not should try to compare their own definition of gambling and compare with the definition of forex trading. Then you should have the answer.

Humans vs. Robots

I actually think humans and robots are similar. Both need to be programmed before they can function. In case of trading, both will first need the reasons to act; entry, exit, buy, sell, taking profit, cutting losses, etc.The real difference in my opinion is that computers are much more efficient.

Performance is one thing. But more important is to make sure that the risk taken will not blow trading account. Investors should understand the fundamentals of the strategy whether it is discretionary or systematic strategy. 3 years of track records are sufficient but nowdays we can backtest strategy up to 10 years.

No experienced traders ever ask this question. But I'm just guessing.

it seems everyone has their own definition about gambling. So what is "gambling" really? When we agree regarding the definition then we can answer the initial question.

Hi sPhantom,Can I ask, what will happen the first time the EA hit SL? If 10 pips TP equal to 2.5% gain, does it means the EA will lose 50% the first time it hit 200 pips SL?

I attach the WFA result using 90 days optimization and 90 days testing period. Risk parameter is increased if previous testing period ended with negative return and decreased of the return exceeded 10%. Overall there are 50 passes (out sample data). The average return is 11.7%. The absolute DD and relative DD are 5.7% and 12.5% respectively. The walk forward efficiency ratio is 2.24 which indicates that this is a robust strategy.

Hi. This is Alfred EA. It is a trend following strategy. The strategy seek to trade in the direction of the trend during pullback. It risks 1% of account free margin per trade with maximum 8 open positions including hedge positions. It works best for EURUSD pair. The backtest period is from 2001 to 2013. The worst dd was 35% but honestly I think the maximum risk is 100% in forex trading. In addition, the maximum stagnation period was 308 days. It is a far from perfect strategy but I think it has the chance to give positive result in the long term..say 5 to 10 years. So, I guess long-term commi...

Do you realize what you asked?40% monthly of $5,000 capital would be $283,470 after 12 months trading or 5,569% return on your capital. And i suppose you want to repeat that each year right?

Hey @MartinC ,I am curious. Can you describe specifically what you looking for? I know you need a winning scalping EA. But how you define a winning scalping EA? How much is your risk tolerance and how much is your monthly expected return? Sometime we dont find what we searching for simply because it is not exist. I also would like to mention that if there is an EA that made trades every day and positive return each month, it will not need $10,000 capital to get off the ground. All I'm saying is that if there is a one true winning scalping EA out there, it shouldn't be hard to find righ...

Hi @MartinC,I currently developing an EA for EURUSD. It is not scalping and will not provide monthly return I'm afraid. But, it has stable performance for the last 12 years. Please check the back-test report here:http://www.myfxbook.com/strategies/asgani-paradja-research/47854.
Do you think that EA can be profitable?

Hi. I think the question should be more specific. As we know profit/loss is one variable. The other important variable is life expectancy of the logic within the EA. So maybe we should change the question to "are there EAs that that give [y] profits in [x] time period". The y and x variables should depend on our risk tolerance and minimum expected return.
