Is anyone else seeing big holes in the history for backtesting in MT4? For example, I'm trying to backtest an EA for Nov 1 2012 thru current date, but when I start the test the date prior to my start date is Jan. 13, then it jumps to Nov 30 with a huge gap in between. It makes accurate backtesting nearly impossible! Before you ask, yes I went to History Center and updated, but it almost always tells me there's no new data. I make sure all the time frames are green before updating. I'm pretty sure MT4 uses MT's servers for history, and these gaps seem to be getting worse. Is MT no longer supporting MT4 now that MT5 is available?

Yes, it's a fairly common problem. Some might say it's a conspiracy to ensure it's impossible to backtest EA's properly...

You can download tick data from other sources and run tests on that. Although it still is far from perfect either.

Best regards Steve

Register with a independent data provider which makes money only from providing data and you will solve the problem

FXDD is my broker and I was looking around their web page and discovered they have 1-minute data for most of the pairs. At least it's giving me a better back-test.
