Canada Markit Manufacturing PMI
The leading indicator of manufacturing performance in Canada is The IHS Markit Canada Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index. A total of five distinct indexes are used to calculate the index, which is weighted according to the following parameters: New Orders (30%), Output (25%), Employment (20%), Suppliers Delivery Times (15%), and Stock of Items Purchased (10%), with the Delivery Times index reversed so that it moves in the same way as the other indexes do. A value greater than 50 indicates that the manufacturing sector has increased in comparison to the previous month; a reading less than 50 indicates that the manufacturing sector has declined, and a reading of 50 shows no change in the manufacturing sector.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the CAD while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the CAD.
