i use MA mostly with RSI and MACD, ATR is used to limit risk.
not chasing the max pips, i look more for the Daily profit of 0.8% of account balance. trade currency pairs that have their own trading times. as the signal seem to be clearer then when both are trading together. i do not trade news events. often hedge with a currency pair when trend moves against me.
