Powell Says Fed Needs To Be Patient As Confidence Inflation Is Slowing Dips
With inflation coming in hotter-than-expected during the first quarter, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said the central bank needs to be patient with regard to interest rates. "The first quarter in the United States was notable for its lack of further progress on inflation," Powell said during remarks at the annual general meeting of the Foreign Bankers' Association in Amsterdam on Tuesday.

Producer prices in the U.S. increased by more than expected in the month of April, according to a report released by the Labor Department on Tuesday. The Labor Department said its producer price index for final demand climbed by 0.5 percent in April after a revised 0.1 percent dip in March. Economists had expected producer prices to rise by 0.3 percent.
