Long story hey - not one I want to get into after I've been sworn at.
I'll just hunker down and mind my little 50% failure if you don't mind. No wonder I didn't get raptured. Using to much margin is a sin. Was wondering....

No worries, I'll look into it some more and see what I can come up with.
I know weejock was sometimes trying to explain how he uses synthetics, but I was too busy trying to get my trend-following systems to work to pay much attention to his posts. Might go and revisit all of them and see what I can learn.
Out of curiosity, what language do you use for the OANDA API. I assume Java since that's the only thing that runs on Linux. I have seem some contradictory posts of yours regarding back-testing, but one this thread you mention that you do. Did you write your own back-testing software? I assume you need to, to fully test your strategies as the backtesters I looked at seem to only be single currency.

We don't back test. We use to, decade ago. I just don't trust it. For Mt was ok to see if code works, but not the result.
API we are doing JAVA. JAVA runs on anything. One of the benefits.
Most of the stuff we do now days are beyond back testing. To complex. Just run it live.

I find back-testing very useful. You have no idea how many indicators and strategies that look ok I have discarded. Running a strategy overnight on 10 years of data can be extremely helpful. Although, most of my results have shown that most of the systems I think up are crap.
The only ones I would trust with real money are my LTTF systems, but they make between 20%-30% per annum with drawdowns in the region of 60%. Thus not very appealing. I am now looking at more shorter term strategies, but find there are no real multi-currency back-testers available. Will probably write my own and try some strategies out.

Nah, use FxSpyder at present (Excel for long-term ideas), but have heard that their data is not perfect either. The benefit of using longer term strategies is that I don't need to have the most accurate data. The less I trade, the less dodgy data is going to come back to haunt me.
But let me emphasize this - I have tested loads of systems and found that most of them don't work. Cost me some programming time and no money. Also, I didn't waste time trying to see if these strategies might work. To me, that is one HUGE benefit. Trying to guess future performance based on back-tested results would be pretty much pointless. Not wasting time with losing systems is a big plus.

my weekend will be just a little bit brighter knowing that such nice people are thinking nice thoughts about me.
just a suggestion for you, take time out of every day and just sit wiith your wonderful baby.
eye contact, babies eat it up, smile, make funny faces, and giggle a bit.
have a joyous day.

The point is to have no system.
Like Bruce Lee said:" Be like water". Market conditions change all the time so should we.

you see now, this is what i dont quite understand about myfxbook's numbers..
at the top left of this page, it says that drawdown is 8.58%
the balance on this account, atm, is $190 and the equity is $150
correct me if i am not correct here, but isnt that a 22% drawdown?
and my account, i do understand that i have lost a lot, i have seen a loss of something like 2k, but my page says that i am down by almost 600%?
i can understand what it means to lose my entire deposit, that sounds like a -100% gain/loss.
but how in the heck is it possible to lose 600%?
i mean, eff all of this dumb bunny poo about whether or not you like me or not, just help me work this out.
i am betting that the majority of the crowd not only never asked this question, which means that they also do not know the answer either.
dang it anyways.

Zero,
Because the fxbook systems works on balance and not NAV it will never be accurate.
In this case last time NAV and balance was the same was $175 and I was out, now $150 NAV, so about 14% DD right now.
To me for 1% a day that's ok, as long as it doesn't get much worse. In theory I should stop out and wait a bit for things to settle down.
I am using to much margin so back to 2 pairs for now. I'm going away again so I'll just load this on the server and let it putter along on it's own for at least 2 months before I do anything to it again.
I won't be able to access it at all. So it be left to it's own devices for a while. Should be ok.

I would say you are lazy but good lazy 😁
It will be interesting how your investment will be growing but I suspect your is not a regular bot.
It doe snot use signals to go long or short, right?
I started getting an idea about what trading baskets might look like.

14th I been told, but I doubt it. Waiting in great anticipation for the visa...not holding my breath.
I work hard when I work. And it is very dangerous. When the job is on it's on, otherwise I'm mellow yellow....lazy if you want to. But just relaxing really. Trying to get rid of the bruises and scrapes.
I don't do signals Chikot. No signals, I have no interest in direction or calls. Doesn't matter in fx. Can easily run it eurusd long for the next 3 years or so. Usd is toast anyway.
