Sensex, Nifty End Choppy Session Little Changed

(RTTNews) - Indian shares fluctuated before ending little changed on Friday despite GST reforms optimism and firm cues from global markets amid growing expectations of a Federal Reserve interest-rate cut later this month.

The benchmark BSE Sensex ended little changed with a negative bias at 80,710.76 after swinging between gains and losses on tariff-related worries.

The broader NSE Nifty index finished marginally higher at 24,741 as investors assessed the impact of new GST rates on macroeconomic situations, including retail inflation, fiscal deficit and RBI policy.

Traders also reacted to reports that Mumbai was put on high alert after threats of terrorist attack during the Ganesh festival.

The BSE mid-cap index slid 0.1 percent but the small-cap index finished marginally higher.

The market breadth was strong on the BSE, with 2,164 shares rising while 1,929 shares declined and 167 shares closed unchanged.

Automakers posted strong gains, with Mahindra & Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki India both rising around 2 percent.

Eternal, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries and Power Grid Corp all rose around 1 percent.

On the downside, Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Unilever, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, TCS, HCL Technologies and ITC fell 1-2 percent.
