I am trying to get my head around this also my understanding so far is... The value of a currency is based on a countries economic strength much like the share price of a company. Good news for the countries economy (or higher than expected) will cause the currency value to increase and the paired currency to fall in relation i.e. On the release of higher than expected jobs data created in America, USD will increase in value against its pairs and vice versa in times of economic uncertainty, recession, wars, banks and buyers flock to gold as a hedge and in turn gold will increase in price XAUUS...
