Australia is a big exporter of commodities due to its abundance of natural resources. Metallic ores and scrap metal contribute for 29% of total exports, coal, coke, and briquettes account for 15%, and natural gas accounts for 7%. Australia also exports food and live animals (14%) with meat (5%) and cereal (4%) being the main exports in this sector; manufactured products (6%), mostly non-ferrous metals (4%); and machinery and transport equipment (6%). China is Australia's most important export market (accounting for 32% of overall exports), followed by Japan (16%), South Korea (7%), the United States (5%), India (4%), New Zealand (3%), Singapore (3%), and Taiwan (3%).

Reserve Bank Of Australia Keeps Rate Steady
The Reserve Bank of Australia retained its interest rate after a quarter-point cut last month, as policymakers became cautious over rising inflation. As widely expected, the board governed by Michele Bullock decided to hold the cash rate at 3.60 percent on Tuesday. Previously, the bank had reduced the rate by 25 basis points each in August, May and February.
