Food and beverage account for 28.6% of the total weight is the most important segment of the CPI basket in the Greater Buenos Aires area, followed by transport (which accounts for 10.4%), and clothing and footwear (10.4%). In addition to, the following industries account for the majority of the remaining percentages: housing and utilities (8.7%), health (8.2%), restaurants and hotels (8.1%), recreation and culture (7.4%), household maintenance and gear (6.3%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.8%), miscellaneous products and services (3.6%), communication (2.9%), and education (1.6%). As of December 2016, the CPI index had a base value of 100 and covers the whole metropolitan area of Buenos Aires, including its 24 districts.

A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the ARS while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the ARS.
