The monthly Consumer Confidence Survey in Brazil is conducted by IBRE/FGV is intended to capture consumers' perceptions of the general state of the economy and their own particular financial situation. Consumers who are cheerful and optimistic are more likely to spend more, while dissatisfied and pessimistic consumers are less inclined to spend. Consumer confidence can therefore have an effect on whether or not economic growth occurs. Constantly monitoring consumer sentiment can provide indications about future spending and saving that can be used to predict what will happen to an economy in the short term. Consumer assessments and predictions about the local and family economic situation at the time of the study and for the following months, employment prospects, and intentions, and the likelihood of purchasing high-value goods in the next 6 months are obtained through the IBRE/FGV studies, among other things. The Consumer Confidence Survey, which began in 2002, collects information from over 2,000 informants in seven main state capitals: Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Porto Alegre, Recife, Salvador, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo.

A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the BRL while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the BRL.
