As a result of an increase in copper shipments, Chile has been running trade surpluses since 1999. Foods, particularly salmon, fresh fruit, chemicals, cellulose and paper, forestry and wood products, metals, machinery, and equipment, and wine, are the major non-mineral exports. The largest trade surpluses were registered with China and Japan in 2019, while the largest trade deficits were reported with the United States, Argentina, and Brazil in the same year.

A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the CLP while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the CLP.
