Japan Jibun Bank Manufacturing PMI
The Jibun Bank Japan Manufacturing PMI, which is generated by IHS Markit based on replies to monthly questionnaires sent to purchasing managers in the panel, includes responses from approximately 400 enterprises. As determined by GDP contribution, the panel is segmented by detailed sector and firm workforce size. The direction of change vs the prior month is shown by survey responses. For each survey variable, a diffusion index is determined. The index is determined by summing the percentages of higher and unchanged responses. The indices range from 0 to 100, with a value more than 50 indicating an overall increase over the preceding month and a value less than 50 indicating an overall drop. In order to determine the PMI the following five indices are used: New Orders (30%), Output (25%), Employment (20%), Suppliers Delivery Times (15%), and Stock of items purchased (10%). The Suppliers' Delivery Times Index is inverted for the purpose of calculating the PMI so that it moves in a direction that is analogous to the other indices. The Suppliers Delivery Times Index is reversed for the purpose of calculating the PMI so that it progresses in the same direction as the other indices.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the JPY while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the JPY.
