Portugal Business Confidence
The National Statistics Institute (INE) in Portugal calculates the economic climate indicator on the basis of three-term moving averages in order to provide a timely composite indicator for the various sectors of the economy. It is calculated using the balances of questions from the Manufacturing Industry (1179 businesses), Trade (1102 firms), Construction and Public Works (822 companies), and Services (1427 businesses) surveys, as well as data from other survey sources. The calculation is based on factor analysis, and the estimated series (the common component) is calibrated by using GDP change rates. Moving averages are used to smooth out the series by removing the abnormal movements, which allows for the discovery of short-term patterns to be identified.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the EUR while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the EUR.

French Inflation Cools; Economy Expands As Estimated
