Romania has an economy with an upper-middle income and has been a member of the European Union since 2007. Romania's most important industries are: textiles and footwear, light machinery and auto assembly, electric machinery and equipment, software, mining, construction materials, lumber, metallurgy, chemicals, food processing, and petroleum refining. On the spending side, household consumption is the most important component of GDP, accounting for 63% of total usage, followed by gross fixed capital formation (22%) and government expenditure (14%). Currently, exports of goods and services account for 41% of GDP, while imports account for the same amount (41%) of GDP.

A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the RON while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the RON.
