Real Wages YoY represent the average wages of wage and salary workers over a certain period of time (year over year change). Wage and salary workers are those who are paid with wages, salaries, commissions, tips, payment in kind, or piece rates, among other compensation for their work or service. Wages earned on a regular basis represent earnings before taxes or other deductions, as well as the typical and customary overtime pay, commissions, or tips received (at the primary job in the case of having multiple jobs). Real wages are salaries that have been adjusted for inflation, or, in other words, wages that are measured in terms of the amount of goods and services that can be purchased. It is used in contrast to nominal wages, which are defined as wages that have not been adjusted for inflation. The fact that real wages have been adjusted to account for fluctuations in the prices of goods and services means that they are a more accurate representation of personal wages of individuals in terms of what they are able to purchase with those wages – specifically, the amount of goods and services that can be purchased with those wages.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the EUR while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the EUR.

German Unemployment Rises More Than Expected
Joblessness in Germany increased more than expected in May as a weak economy continued to impede job creation, official data revealed on Wednesday. The number of unemployed increased sharply by 34,000 in May compared to April's rise of 6,000, the Federal Employment Agency said. Economists expected a monthly increase of 12,000.

The French economy recovered in the first quarter, as initially estimated, the statistical office INSEE reported Wednesday. Gross domestic product grew 0.1 percent from the fourth quarter, when the economy shrank 0.1 percent.

European Economic News Preview: Germany Unemployment Data Due
Unemployment from Germany and revised GDP and consumer spending from France are due on Wednesday, headlining a light day for the European economic news. At 2.00 am ET, Destatis is scheduled to issue Germany's import prices for April. Import prices are forecast to fall 1.4 percent month-on-month, faster than the 1.0 percent decrease in March.
