Turkey Economic Confidence Index
Economic confidence in Turkey is a composite measure that takes into account consumers' and producers' assessments of the country's general economic status, as well as expectations and trends in the economy. To create the index, normalized sub-indices of consumer confidence, seasonally adjusted real sector (manufacturing industry), services, retail trade, and construction confidence indices were mixed with other sub-indices. When the index is over 100, the economic confidence index suggests an optimistic outlook for the general economic condition; when the index is below 100, the index indicates a pessimistic view of the general economic situation.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the TRY while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the TRY.

Turkish Central Bank Cuts Key Rates Sharply For Second Time
Turkey's central bank slashed its key interest rates for the second straight meeting on Thursday citing slowdown in the underlying trend of inflation. The Monetary Policy Committee of the Republic of Turkey decided to reduce the policy rate to 40.5 percent from 43.0 percent. Previously, the bank had reduced the rate by 300 basis points in July.

The Monetary Policy Committee, headed by Yasar Fatih Karahan, decided to reduce the policy rate to 42.5 percent from 45.0 percent, as widely expected. The bank had reduced the rate by 250 basis points each in December and January.
