First-time jobless claims have a significant impact on the financial markets since in contrast to continuous claims data, which monitors the number of people receiving unemployment benefits, first-time jobless claims measure fresh and developing unemployment.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the USD while a lower than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the USD.

Wholesale inventories in the U.S. crept up by less than expected in the month of June, according to a report released by the Commerce Department on Thursday. The Commerce Department said wholesale inventories inched up by 0.1 percent in June after falling by 0.3 percent in May. Economists had expected wholesale inventories to rise by 0.2 percent, in line with the preliminary estimate.

The Labor Department said initial jobless claims climbed to 226,000, an increase of 7,000 from the previous week's revised level of 219,000.
