ESMA and its implication
in

Aug 12, 2018 at 12:25
Let's assume ESMA's intentions are fair, and to protect retail traders. According to that assumption the real goal was to implement the negative balance protection. I assume that because of this leverage had to be restricted to 1:30 for major currency pairs. I hypothesize that this leverage restriction was implemented for preventing the retail traders taking advantage of negative balance protection as speculated in the link I posted before. In such a case retail investor preceding an important news event would go short in one broker, and long in another. If a major move happens the neg...

To clarify myself: Leverage controls the money required for traded lots, and traded lots in unison with stop loss controls risk. If leverage available is low more money is required for margin. Leverage offered by broker can be hight but leverage used can still be less than 10. Stupid ruling they made.

The only concern is that I want to make it big time - big money (100k) out of small money (far less than 1k). Now I can't depo small amts and need more money per microlots for margin. Cent account may be the work around. Trial and err is a slow way of learning. Using leverage less than 10, of course. High leverage is not a big issue, trading with large lot sizes is. That ESMA got wrong.

What will happen to forex rebate programs? Aren't they falling to the same category with bonuses, which will be prohibited by the new regulations?
Reasons why you should NOT trade cryptocurrencies

The most useful way for cryptocurrencies would have been its use as an alternative payment method for those concerned with the privacy issues. But now since its value is fluctuating so heavily it is not good even for that. No question about owning it.

I do not have any numbers to show.off. If one has a huge pile of money to invest then by all means go for investing real estate, farming or, dividends. I would do that. But unless one already has a fortune then it goes down to the percentage game, and by accumulating roll by small absolute increments. Of course one should not forget the money management! Somebody made a remark about ESMA. I would go for a broker that allows nonstandard lot sizes and try with that - thats what I am going for. I rarely use leverage greater than 10, anyways.I'm still learning.

I agree with this one. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that one needs to scale down lot size considerably if one is trading on long term. That means that the profitability decreases, and variance increases. Also, building a trading account takes longer. In addition, I like it low variance, which implies that winrate should be higher and keeping the holding time short (intraday trades, that is).Besides, trading long term is like leaving money on the table.

I think one has to be emotionally strong, analytic, and visual. For me the biggest reason for the losses is the inability to transform the mode of trading from the trend trading approach to the ranging market conditions. In my opinion it is probably a lie that one should focus on the higher time frames. There are a lot of minor things that one should take into consideration. Those things can be learned only by trial and error and/or by having a good coach.Trading can be purely technical and be profitable. Avoid trading during high risk news events. One should begin with a demo account or with ...

I want to continue with the same topic. Currently in my location (EET) it is past midnight, and Sydney has opened and New York has been closed. The swap for USDJPY of the size of 0.01 lots is 0.19 € including the weekend. The spread seems to be 5.3 pips, which is too much. When visiting to the front page of EXNESS it says that currently the spread is 3.2 pips, but my simultaneously taken screenshot (a second one) says that it is actually 5 pips. That is a difference of 1.8 pips. Does it sound honest?During the London and New York session they spread seems to be closer to the promised, but ...

I don't think is a good broker anymore. Spreads are high in my opinion, which prevents short term trading and scalping. On the other hand the overnight fees are nowadays high, too, which lays a burden onto the swing and longer term trader. Go find another broker. I am considering it too.
Scalping

May 24, 2018 at 06:17
There is a need for defining what is meant by scalping. There is a lot of confusion regarding this. In my opinion scalping is practiced on tick level and/or in 1min and probably even 5min chart. It is essential for scalping having a low spread account. This excludes most of the market making brokers. I think the spread should be smaller than 0.5 pips - the lower the better. Technical indicators are of no use, with an exclusion of a couple of SMAs.If the trade is not working on traders' direction the trade is going to be closed. One can understand that if most of the wins are around 1 pips ...
Effect of spread on time frame being traded

Have you guys ever considered the effect of spread to the leverage used, and time frame in which you execute orders? In short a post a couple of postulates I've formed through trial and error, and some thinking:Low spread - lower time frame - scalping is possibleHigher spread - higher time frame - scalping is not possible because spread eats profits.Definition of scalping? If the spread is low - one can use higher leverage, and lower time frame. However, risk of total loss (bankruptcy), and becoming indebted is higher! As a rule of thumb I switch "show ask line" on in MT4. If the as...

This issue has been discussed surprisingly little. On some other threads there has been some remarks, like that one concerning the cryptocurrencies trading. The restriction on leverage does NOT have any significant effect for most of the traders - at least it shouldn't have. That is because the spread is so high in most of the brokers, it renders trading in lower time frames useless and eats your profits. As a rule of thumb I set "show ask line" on in MT4 terminal, and if the line is visible then I do't trade and execute orders in this time frame. I might close my position in ...

I thought trading bitcoin would be a nice plan for a weekend while forex exchanges are closed. It proved wrong for a couple of reasons. Cryptocurrencies are very volatile in all time frames, and they are very unpredictable, too. The spread is unbearably high with my broker, which prevents scalping. One simply cannot use technical indicators with at least BTCUSD.

I'm trying to trade M5, H1 and D and occasionally even W. I guess this attempt qualifies me being a swing trader. Trading false breakouts with a trailing stop loss gives the impressions of a day trader. But still, my trading is still forming. Timing seems to be derived from M5 and direction from H1 an D.

Now it seems that the price is ascending again after being ranging within about 60 pips. Would you call that a correction, or is it likely that USDCHF will yet try to move closer to the support line?

I would wait until the prices are closer to the rightmost support line drawn in the chart of CrazyTrader. If they break through that line it might be a short selling situation again. Currently, the distance is still about 100 pips.

In order to fight that I suggest using a 10-period SMA at D1 chart. Trading in the direction of the daily chart trend only but doing whatever one likes in the shorter time frames.Cheers!
