Well at some point you need to reach the decision stay in your day job with all the positive and negative or leave and trade for living.
It depends on your approach to life. I could say it was the best decision I have ever made.

Oh, you're absolutely right. I've been thinking about it for a while now, but I lack the courage and confidence to make that final step. I feel like I should be a bit more consistent in my making profits while trading before I do that, even though I can tell I am improving.

To become independent trader, to trade as professional and not as hobby. After it is done, I can think about some gains for living. I suppose it is better to concentrate on big goals stage by stage instead of climbing to the very top of sky-castle and then fall death after an unlucky trade :D

I believe the greatest reward for all this hard work will be doing it full time and dropping my day job. I am a chef, and it is rewarding and well paid, but I spend a lot of time at the kitchen and not at home with my children. Of course, I would love more extra cash for fun things like hobbies and music, and enough to save to invest for the kids, but if all I could get was a job I could do from home, I would be most satisfied .

Everything in the market is like a fart, if you have to force it, it is probably shit

You know, if you start trading professionally you'll probably be spending a lot of time in front of the charts too. Work is work, regardless of where you're doing it.

Clearly, you don't have kids and/or you don't know what it is like to work in a kitchen.

As I said, it would yield much more time with my kids and wife. Do I need to explain how, or can you figure it out on your own

After going through the threat of redundancy and dodging that bullet last year, I decided to try a couple of other ventures that failed but led me to Forex trading. I've been practicing and learning as much as I can and am about to go live.
What do I want out of it.... To be able to replace what I am earning now with taking only 50% of the weekly profits. When I can do this and having a stable return, then I will look at replacing my day job and learn to live life and not work it!

'...the final results of the study yielded that over a four-year period (2009-2012), the percentage of investors experiencing losses came in at 89%. The average loss of a customer during this period was $13,800 (€10,900).

In the four years combined, a total of 13,224 customers experienced aggregate losses of nearly $220 million (€175 million), with the remaining 1,575 customers earning a combined $17.51 million (€13.8 million).'

1. I have to assume that the 89% who have lost an average of $14k were probably not too dumb... Still they have ended up as losers.

2. On the other hand the lucky 11% has made an average of $11k profit during the same 4-year period, which is $5k per year...

Well, that is the reward (i.e. $5k per year) for becoming a Top 10% trader...! I guess even McDonalds pays higher yearly salaries...

Is that what you wish to achieve through Forex...?

question is, what are YOU trying to achieve?

I really don't see the point of the article, other than to maybe scare possible clients into putting their capitol into a fund rather than trading it themselves...... I mean, the whole part about this being a zero sum event, where competition is everything, and longevity calculates your ability to stay in business , is kind of obvious. No one is walking into this making millions without even trying. Obviously, if anything is actually easy, everyone would be doing it....... yada yada yada.
So, instead of trying to make it sound like it is useless to even try or to study, what in the heck are you doing here???? Why are you in the markets? How has your five years of experience taught you, and if you are such a cynic , why are you still trying to trade?

Seriously, I am curious

Most of the people are trading because they are looking for a part time job or they sre looking where they can invest and earn extra, its all about earning more money than any other thing.

True, we're all looking for profit. Forex trading also provides an intellectual exercise, the opportunity to meet new like-minded people, etc. but the profit is the most important reason.

:D In my case the adrenaline ride usually coincides with losing money. I am generally just calm - or pleased - when I am profiting.

programming language will not teach you or facilitate you in your strategy developing. Programming languages are for programming, not strategy .
What are you doing in the way of developing strategy? I suggest getting formerly educated, 2ndskies.com or claytrader.com or something that rings true to you. There are educational systems and reviews on forexpeacearmy.com
