I've started a petition here asking MetaQuotes to release an update for MT4 with Multi-Threaded backtesting and end the pain...

We've waited long enough...
cheers, drayzen 😉

Dear @drayzen
It seems to be good idea. It is not. Why? MT4 BT is quite useless but you can use MT5 backtesting that actually works with tick precision.

I doubt that this is going to go through unfortunately. Metaquotes has already announced they will stop selling the MT4 platform. So, it is logical to believe that they won't put anymore time and effort into developing new tools for it.

Hi vontogr,
Yeah pretty disappointing, I contacted a bunch of sites via twitter but it's just been ignored, everyone just keeps saying they won't do it. Well that's why I made the petition obviously! But if nobody signs it then it's just a self-fulfilling prophecy on the part of those who say that...
I would agree if brokers were actually transitioning to MT5 platform but it's just not happening.
I 've tested with MT5 and I realise it's backtesting is far superior (it even supports OpenCL so you can process on a GPU!), it's just that there's also a significant number of EA's that aren't being recoded by their developers because the demand isn't high enough.
I updated the petition with broker listings from this site as it was the most comprehensive I could find: https://www.allfxbrokers.com/forex-brokers
It shows x193 MT4 brokers and only x18 for MT5!
So even if brokers do decide to update, it will still be a long time before it's complete and there's a broad selection for traders.
It seems kind of obvious to me that they should just do it as given it's been over 7 years since the release of MT5 it's clearly not going to impact on any broker's decisions to update.
So the only result is an inconvenience for their end users.

Yeah also MT5 backtesting is far superior to MT4 so why bother with it.

Why is MT5 backtesting better than MT4? I thought that you could only get long historical data for MT4
As MT5 allow real tick backtesting
MT4 is far away from that even with birts eye package.

It’s highly unlikely they’d do that. They announced back in the end of 2016 that they won’t be developing MT4 any more. (https://www.forexbrokerz.com/news/mt4-stops-developing-mt4) and will focus on MT5.
